Admiration

I love women. I love their company. I admire them. I trust them. I love them as friends. I love to work with women, or even for them. I wish I had a woman CEO. Or some day even a woman president of the United States.

I am attracted to smart women, women who are very outspoken, liberated, outgoing, independent and successful. But occasionally, I will also feel intense sympathy for women who are totally immature.

Cosmo

One of my favorite magazines is "Cosmopolitan". The brainchild of Helen Gurley brown in 1965. It is a magazine for young, bright, energetic, career-oriented women, "fun fearless females". I rank it even higher than Forbes, Fortune or Business week. Cosmo is brilliant.

If all women were Cosmo women, the world would be a different place. Probably a more interesting place. Although not all real women are Cosmo women, Cosmo should be required reading for all of our politicians. At a time when feminism seems to have degenerated into a cult of the victim, Cosmo is a breath of fresh air.

Feminism

I have thought about Feminism. It used to be simple. In general, women wanted two things:

  • Equal job opportunities
  • Complete sexual freedom

Today, women have achieved the first half of their goal. It is my firm belief that, by and large, a woman with brains and determination, can reach any level of professional success.

Some progress was made on the second goal, sexual freedom. But then, the whole movement fell apart.

  • Some women who work today, suddenly realize that they would rather be at home, and have a husband earn the money. (Of course, this is easier to accept when there are young children to take care of.)
  • It is not clear anymore that women, as a group, still want sexual freedom. Some do enjoy it, others panic at the mere thought.

I believe that much more so than men, women fall into two categories: the ones who love sex, and the ones who fear sex. Today's feminism has broken into these two categories, and as a result, has found itself rather paralyzed.

Unfortunately for men, casual observation may not reveal which of the two categories a particular woman fits most closely. This has resulted in a lot of misunderstanding, embarrassment and tragic situations.

Some so-called feminists now really seem to be fighting for the right to be sexless.

They perceive sexuality as a form of exploitation by men. They seem to want the right to be repressed, yet still enjoy the same social status as women who enjoy and use their sexuality.

I find that unfortunate. Not only does that feed into a general "victim" image, it is also a sort of glorified sexual communism: that one should not have better opportunities because one happens to be sexy.

So, feminism is divided. It has been said that feminism is dead. I don't think it is. At least, I hope that it is not.

Two Reasons Why I think Women Should be Sexually Liberated

The first reason is ideological. It is also obvious. Fairness. Equality.

The second reason is more interested, speaking as an average, healthy male. If our wives or girlfriends were sexually repressed, we would be the ones running around frustrated!

Women as Sexual Beings

Societies throughout history have not been fair to women. Too often, women have been conditioned to either not enjoy sex, or if they did, not to show it.

Things may have changed a little. But nowadays, a woman who sleeps with more than one man, is still called a slut.

It makes no sense. I believe that inherently, women are very sexual, probably much more sexual than men.

  • Women can enjoy much more frequent, intense and longer lasting orgasms than men. Controlled scientific and laboratory studies have shown that women can have tens of orgasms in a single hour.
  • Women tend to be more sensual, more sensitive. They have better developed erogenous zones than men.
  • Parents of teenage girls will happily confirm that their hormones are even harder to control than those of their brothers.

Pornography

Some women have taken on pornography, as being degrading to women. I think they got it backwards.

Assuming it is men who buy the stuff (usually a correct assumption), then it is really the men who are being degraded, for having to pay real money for the privilege of looking at a picture and dreaming of women they wish they could get and can't.

The Pressure to Be Beautiful

Sometimes women blame men for a number of things. A common one, is that men put a lot of pressure on women to be thin and look beautiful and sexy. To look like fashion models.

I believe that that allegation, although not without grounds, is exagerated:

  • Women do like to look sexy. But not necessarily to impress men. Actually, looking sexy is often a status symbol, to impress other women.
  • The editors of fashion magazines, the ones who launch the new "looks" of super- thin models, are often women. The fashion magazines are mostly bought and read by women. (I do agree that many fashion designers are men, but then quite a few are gay).
  • In a study about what people perceived to be the "ideal" body size, both men and women were asked to choose pictures of women, which they found more attractive. The women consistently chose the thinner ones.
  • Typical men's magazines, like Playboy and Penthouse, often use models who are a little chunkier. Some nude pictures of Anna Nicole Smith (also a Guess model) in Playboy, were considered exceptionally sexy, despite her slightly higher than average weight.

Besides, men are not immune from the same pressures. Male CEO's of large, public corporations, all tend to have the same "look". And a study a few years ago, found that in the US military, men who were blonde and had square jaws, were much more likely to make it to the upper echelons of the hierarchy.

It is true however, that Paula Jones's credibility improved after she had her nose and her hair done. Only then did she obtain her out of court settlement from president Clinton.

Fashion and Modeling

Modeling is 10% about body and looks, 90% about attitude.
