Why Those cities?

We don't have offices there. At least not yet. But we probably will, some day. I love those cities. They are cosmopolitan. They move. They are open- minded. These are cities I want to write about. These are the cities I want people to write from.

Miami

The cosmopolitan city by excellence. Latin America within the US borders. Sun. Beaches. Money. Swimsuits. Gorgeous models. Latino music. Fashion. Night life. Rhythm. Cubans. Palm trees. Style...

Milan

FASHION. Models. Car builders. Style...

Hong Kong

Once the most capitalistic city on earth. A city of contrasts. Once An island within the largest communist nation on earth. A city nation of Chinese refugees who were determined to start over. A city without any natural resources, which in a few decades built up so much wealth, that in gross national product per capita, it passed not only the original mother country of Britain, but almost topped the United States as well. A city that now accounts for about one fifth of the gross national product of the whole of China.

Its most imposing shrine to Money is the Bank of China building. A building owned by the communist regime and designed by IM Pei, a Chinese American who also designed the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas and the pyramid within the Louvre in Paris. It was once said about Hong Kong that its inhabitants only care about two things: money and sex...

Paris

Another City of Fashion. The City of Light. The City of culture...

Houston

The Energy Capital of the World. Oil money with all the cute excesses that come with the territory. Said to not be as cosmopolitan as Dallas. But I like the city's redneck attitude. Pick-up trucks and cow-boy hats. This is a place that for a long time did not having any zoning laws. And as opposed to Dallas, it seems to lie just a bit outside of the Bible Belt...

Amsterdam

The ultimate liberal city. Every politician in the world should be required to tour Amsterdam's Red Light District. And convince themselves that things are actually very quiet, scenic and peaceful.

San Fransico

A place where nude dancers still dance nude. Totally nude... And of course, located right by the Silicon Valley...

London

The British are said to be prude. In general, they are. But in what other city in the world can you find entire telephone booths completely wallpapered with ads for prostitutes?

Los Angeles

Hollywood, the Dream factory. Money. Excess. Bad taste. Let's just hope that political correctness doesn't also get a hold of this place...

New York City

I went back to Manhattan after about 10 years. I was disappointed, to say the least. My bubble burst. I am dropping New York City from my list of interesting places. Mayor Rudolf Giuliani is cleaning up the topless bars around Times Square, the sex shops and the seedy theaters. Apparently, they are to be replaced by Disney activities and boarded up buildings. In the meantime, there seems to be more trash on the streets at night than I remembered from my last visit.

I think Rudy shot himself in the foot. I used to like Disney characters, but that was 25 years ago, when I was a kid. Even my three year old recently decided he was too old for Mickey.

It's not like I have a particular urge to go inside sex shops. But they were like landmarks to me. Part of the soul of the city. A tribute to the Ideal of Freedom, just like the Statue of Liberty. I just had to know they were there in order to feel good about America. If Rudy were destroying the Statue of liberty, I would be upset too. Although I have never been on Ellis Island...

Las Vegas

Vegas used to truly be something. Today, it still is, but it is probably overrated. The sleaze is gone. Besides, most of the gambling is boring. After all, slot machines are not that different from arcade games.

It seems to me that people who like European looking hotels, might as well go to Europe. And if they like Disney World, they might as well go to Disney World.

Moscow

Here is a surprise. Hong Kong upside down. Once the Center of the Communist World. Cold, rigid, static, infested by police in civilian clothes. But also a place where young people knew English, and would do anything to talk and trade with Westerners. I was there in 87. Before the Berlin Wall came down. Moscow was a place that was ready for some serious change. And the change came...

Today, at a time where in the US, civil liberties are being lost at a record rate, Moscow is the city where anything goes. Wild parties, wild sex, and wild capitalism. Crime too, unfortunately, but that is part of the wild appeal. A place to watch!
